As if (2008)
The sculpture refer to a V8 engine in real size, made of the shapeless material rubber foam. As an engine per definition is function and precision a contrast apears and questions about what form and function are asked. By a closer look details are missing, some proportions are weird. The model for the piece is actually an other model, a toy kit that represent a Corvette C2 "Sting Ray" 1963-1967 that I got for Christmas as a child. At that time I was to young to build it my self, I didn't finish more than the engine, "that was the most delicate". I want in this piece reduce the definiton of a motor from function to form and show the playfullness in the creating process.
Big Block Beauty (2009)
A motor show, an art show, esthetic ideals, entertainment, amazement. I want to bring the motor culture into art, or the contrary.
What happens when function, power and destruction reduces to pure finish, lack of power, castration? Is the sexual seduction still there?
A perception of raw power and violent death. Motor is my past’s cultural language. My artistry moves in and out through the countryside and the working class, the clash with the art and the guilt every man, traitor and human have to carry.
This is my attempt to understand art.
